HELP US NAME SHREWSBURY’S NEWEST PARK
Next year will see the creation of a landmark new park in Shrewsbury Town Centre, running along Roushill to the corner of Smithfield Road, and we want your help to give it a fitting name.
The park will feature play equipment for children of all ages, sunken rain gardens, seating, and a lawn and event area. It will be designed with accessibility and sustainability in mind, providing a calm, relaxing space just a few minutes from the bustle of Shrewsbury’s high street.
As this park will be a space for everyone to enjoy, we want all of you to get involved in helping us pick a name that reflects Shrewsbury’s unique character and charm.
Here’s how it works:
Send us your suggested names for the new park, along with your name and email address before 30 November 2024.
Alongside the Big Town Plan Partnership, we will produce shortlist of our favourite suggestions ahead of a final public vote in January. Use the form below to send us your submissions, or send them by email or freepost using the details on this page. Make sure you read the submission rules first.
Rules for Submissions:
Park names should not duplicate the name of any public space in the town or its surrounding areas, even if differentiating words are included. e.g. “The New Quarry” or “Little Mousefield” would not be allowed.
Park names that may be considered obscene, racist, or which would contravene any aspect of the Council’s equal opportunities policies will not be accepted.
Park names must not contain any numbers, special characters, or punctuation.
Park names should not be difficult to pronounce or awkward to spell as these may lead to confusion in an emergency situation.
Names must not have a royal connotation, as this requires consent from the royal family, e.g. “King’s Park” or “Princess Anne Gardens” would not be allowed.
In order to avoid causing offence either by inclusion or exclusion, the park cannot be named after any living person.
Names that promote a company, service or product will not be allowed. An exception to this may be made for a company that no longer exists, if used solely in an historical context and the claim of advertising cannot be made.
